1. Don't rush
Take your time in designing your kitchen and decide on what kind of style is the easiest for you to maintain. Style A might look good for Diana's kitchen, but it might not work best for you and your family. There's plenty to consider when designing a kitchen. If you take your time and do a bit of research, you'll be extremely happy with the end result.
3. Design to function
Put in mind that functionality should always come before esthetics. A kitchen that looks nice but functions poorly is a waste of money and time. If you've been using your kitchen for quite some time, you should be familiar with your rhythm in the kitchen. You know which space is utilized more and what item goes best where. From here, you can best decide the right shelving unit, the right cabinet size, etc.
5. Be patient
When you are on a budget and having to do most of the arrangement yourself, you have to set the expectation slightly lower. We have to admit that Ikea's customer service is not the best although you've spent thousands of ringgit there. If things don't go as planned, take a deep breath before moving forward. Few mishaps here and there might happen but it's not worth your stress. However, make sure that Ikea is fully aware of the mishaps cause by them.
2. Stick to the budget
This is the easiest rule to break. If you really know what you want and what type of kitchen function best for you, sticking to the budget will be easy. With tools provided by Ikea, you have the advantage to create your kitchen within budget. Make sure to put your needs before your wants. That way, your budget will go towards the important items first.
4. Check all items
To save yourself from unnecessary headaches, don't believe everything that's been printed out on your invoice despite being checked by the Ikea staff. Cross-check your invoice with the item list to ensure that no items are left behind. If you feel like you need to cross off certain items in the list don't be shy to inform the staff. Double and triple check everything especially if you wish the items to be delivered to your doorstep by the delivery service.
6. Less is more
More is not always more. Sometimes the simpler your kitchen design, the better and easier to maintain in the long run. Don't blow your budget just because you want everything to go over the top. Start with the basic and in the future, you can always add more to the basic design. Less is definitely more in our case.
